Cost & Fees
There is no
charge to the City for the services provided by the OPGs. While
there is a charge to persons whose vehicles have been towed, the
fees are regulated by the Police Commission. Recent surveys
indicate that these fees are lower than most neighboring cities.
Current Fees as
set forth by the Police Commission are as follows:
• Towing:
$109.50 per hour - Standard Vehicles
$212.00 per hour - Heavy Duty
• Storage:
$33.00 per day – Standard Vehicles
$48.00 - $60.00 per day - Heavy Duty Vehicles
(depending on vehicle size)
• City of L.A.
Vehicle Release Fee: $100.00 per each vehicle released
• 10% City
Parking Occupancy Tax collected on storage fees
The OPGs
remitted over $18 million dollars to the City of Los Angeles in
2009. This revenue consisted of the following:
• Franchise
Fees (7% Gross Receipt Fee)
• Vehicle
Release Fees
• City Parking
Occupancy Taxes
• Delinquent
Parking Citation fees remitted to the City from lien sale excess
fees
• Proceeds from
sales of Forfeited Vehicles
*
For vehicles that are sold for more than the charges against them, towing companies must remit the excess fees to either the local city for delinquent parking citation fees due or the remaining balance of the overage to the State of California, Department of Motor vehicles. While there are hundreds of companies in the state that conduct lien sales, the Los Angeles OPGs combined account for 60% of the excess overages submitted annually to the Department of Motor Vehicles. |
